Experience

There are many factors that can negate the effectiveness of paint finishes, which can only be avoided through in-depth knowledge of products and application procedures. For example, in the case of some high-performance paints for exterior applications, temperature sensitivity plays a large part in how effective the finish will be. Many products have a set range of temperatures between which they can be applied to achieve the right adherence and subsequent performance over their lifetime.

Key elements of a professional paint job

There’s no getting away from it, your premises, whether offices, shops, or reception areas, have a fundamental effect on how clients, staff, and suppliers alike perceive your organisation. The few thin layers of paint covering that, however, form the largest part of your building’s surfaces (glass areas excepted) and speak volumes about your attention to detail and the value you place on providing a high-quality environment in which to conduct business.

Paint Selection

We believe that the most important element in providing a professional painting service is to use high-quality paints. You also need the knowledge and experience to select the correct paint for the environment. A factory floor will require a different finish compared to an art gallery’s ceiling. If a project requires a specialist finish, such as ragging, sponging, graining, colour washing, or marbling we can source the most suitable materials for the job on your behalf. Some examples that would require careful selection and application are as follows:

Swimming pools: the areas surrounding pools would usually require acrylic water-based paints that can be applied to the edges of pools, walls roofs, and ceilings.

Industrial/machinery environments: Where mild resistance to water, acids, alkalis, mineral oils, and inorganic salts are needed, acrylate rubber paint could be used. This fast-drying paint can be used on many materials, including metals, wood and asbestos, using the correct primers.

Steel frame agricultural constructions: Bituminous paint provides a strong one coat application that can be applied to steel framed barns, tanks, and other farm buildings.

Heavy industrial and marine environments: In areas where you need an extremely tough finish and thorough water resistance, a high build 2 pack epoxy paint is ideal.

Preparation

A paint only performs as well as the surface it is applied to. All debris, dust, grease, and loose paintwork should be thoroughly removed prior to application. Sometimes this requires a simple vacuum process. Other times more forceful methods can be used, such as sandblasting and sometimes on metalwork in marine applications, the use of a needle gun.

If you are using a high-performance specialist paint, this is even more important, because some systems require chemical interaction with the substrate. Also, high-performance paints need to be applied with thoroughly clean, or even brand-new rollers and brushes. Failure to do this can result in cross-contamination from chemicals present on the tools from previous jobs. This will definitely have a negative effect on the performance of any paints applied.

Preparation for painting can also entail the caulking of cracks around skirting boards and door and window trim.
